About the Department

The Department of Commerce was established during the year 1951 to offer a B.Com. Degree course by Prof.B.Ramasubba Reddy, Prof.B Rangaiah, Prof.K. Chandrasekhar Naidu as founder faculty members.

The vision and mission of the department is to rise the quality and relevance of Commerce education to the global environment. Our mission is to make the students mature, skilful, knowledgeable, competitive, cultured, well communicative and self-empowered to the welfare of the society and nation as a whole.

B.Com. course with Co-operation as a special subject was started in 1951 with a sanctioned strength of 35 and with Cost Accounts as a specialised subject was started in 1967 with a sanctioned strength of 35. Prior to 1972, there were only English medium sections in the Department. During 1972 two Telugu medium sections in B.Com course were sanctioned to cater to the needs of Telugu medium students.

B.Com course with Computer Applications as a special subject was started in 1999-2000 with a sanctioned strength of 30 in addition to B.Com General English medium Section. B.A course with Accounts, Statistics and Economics was replaced by B. A (ASCA) Accounts, Statistics and Computer Applications with a sanctioned strength of 30. MFM P.G. Course was started in 2008 with a sanctioned strength of 40. During the year, 2012, the name of MFM course was changed to M. Com (FM) by S. V. University, Tirupathi, A.P

In 2020 one B. Com Computer Application section (with a sanctioned strength of 60) and one B. Com English medium section (with a sanctioned strength of 60) were granted to meet the heavy demand for these Commerce courses. The present total sanctioned strength of the Department is 390 ( two B. Com(EM)s 80+60, one B. Com (TM) 80, two B. Com (CA)s 60 + 60 and B. A (ASCA) 50 = 390

Courses offered

The Bachelor of commerce degree is to provide students with a wide range of managerial skills, while building competence in particular area of business. Students are exposed to general business principels, taking courses in accounting, finance, economics, business management.

A B.Com. degree prepares students for the corporate world as well as entrepreneurship. Students obtain enough business and financial knowledge that they can adapt to a job or of an entrepreneur. B.Com., degree holders can work in a large variety of fields like consultances, organizations, public accounting firms, marketing, investment banking, foreign trade, budget planning, and banks.

The Department has got an exclusive computer lab with 60 computers, LCD Projector, with Internet facility. The lab is used for both UG and PG courses.
