About the Department
The Department of English at S.V. Arts College in Tirupati is being well managed by the benign guidance of our Principal and munificent TTD management. Our department was first established in 1945. Under the headship of 18 successive heads, the Department of English has been teaching to all the students of all groups since 1945. English is compulsory for all the students. Our department taught English for the Old Intermediate students from 1945-1956. In 1957 the Intermediate course was withdrawn and P.U.C. was introduced. Later, our department taught English for Pre-Professional Courses of M.B.B.S, B.Sc. (Ag), B.V.Sc.. New Intermediate, Evening College and B.C.A. In addition to continuing the conventional degree courses of B.A., B.Com. and B.Sc. since its inception.
Vision
We seek to foster knowledge, love of literature and of language in our students. At the end of the course, we provide students coherent curricular framework and relevant well-structured course choice in all phases and areas. We teach Advanced English, General English and Communication skills. We teach students to listen, speak, read and write effectively. We encourage students to think deeply and to reflect on what they have learned through internal examination.
Mission
The Department of English at S.V. Arts College helps students to build knowledge of the content and methods of literary studies. In addition, our faculty is committed to an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge, evident in their involvement in programs such as Yes+ Program which includes Yoga, Meditation, Computer Skills and Communication Skills. Our graduates are well prepared for professional study and for lifelong learning. They pursue careers in Education, Research, Business, Law, Government and Publishing. The Department's policies and its intensive curriculum demonstrate our commitment to the Art of Living.

- A Temporary English Lab was established on 29.04.2009 in the College Physical Education Department. Later, a full- fledged English Lab was established at Room No. 204 on 5thFebruary, 2011 under the supervision of Sri P. MohanaMoorthy with the cooperation of TTD Management. On 5th December, 2011 a permanent English Lab with 60 computers, was inaugurated by Sri L.V. Subramanyam I.A.S. E.O. TTD and Dr .M.D. Christopher, Principal of our college.
- Kent R.O. System was donated by Sri D. Subramanyam Raju, Sr. Lecturer in our Department.
- Voltas Water Dispenser was donated by Sri P. Mohana Moorthy, HOD of our Department.
- Dr. M. Venkateshwara Rao donated Rs. 10,000 for the development of English department.
- Dr. S Markandeyan and Mrs. Sreedevi donated photos and sceneries for the department staff room.
- C.Muneendran, Senior Lecturer and Dr. V Ananda Naidu, donated for purchasing furniture, table glass and curtains.
