DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

About the Department

The Department of Chemistry was established in the year 1945. It is one of the major departments in the College. Currently, it has an enrolment of about 650 students pursuing undergraduate courses with formal and innovative combinations such as MPC, CBZ, CPZ, CDZ, MDC, and BBC. The department has well equipped and well maintained laboratories which have been constantly modernized and upgraded. These facilities not only offer excellent learning opportunities but also extend analysis services to the industry and other uses extensively. The department has also dedicated, motivated and enthusiastic group of faculty members actively involving in both teaching and research.

Apart from these courses, M.Sc. Organic chemistry was started in the year 2008. The Department of Chemistry have been recognised by S.V. University, Tirupati in the year 2014 as research centre and was obtained the permission to guide the M.Phil./Ph,D. students who were qualified in SVU RECET exam. So far 6 students obtained their Ph.D. degrees and one M.Phil. The alumni M.Sc. Organic Chemistry are pursuing their Ph,Ds at highly reputed National Institutes like IIT, IICT and IISER.

Vision

  • To develop the young minds and identifying their talents both in theory and practical through effective teaching and innovative instructional methods
  • By supporting development activities of the college and make the department vibrant
