DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

About the Department

The Department of Physics is one of the oldest departments existing since the inception of the college in 1945 before Independence. In the beginning physics was taught for B.Sc. Physics main, old two year Intermediate, Pre University and pre professional courses of first year MBBS, first Year Ag. B. Sc. and first year B.V. Sc. From 1964 onwards physics has been taught for B.Sc. general courses, Mathematics-Physics-Chemistry and Chemistry-Physics-Zoology.

At present Physics offered in B.Sc. course with four combinations viz.,

  • Mathematics-Physics-Chemistry (English and Telugu medium)
  • Mathematics-Physics-Electronics (English medium)
  • Mathematics-Physics-Computer Science (English medium)
  • Chemistry-Physics-Zoology (English medium)

In the last combination (C.P.Z.), the Physics course is different from other combinations of Physics. The syllabus is different, having applications of Biological aspects, such as electrical activity in muscles, Neurons and Heart, ECG, EEG, X-rays, Radiation Hazards, Bio Medical Implant Materials, Nano Medical Applications etc., and this combination is offered in only two colleges in entire University area. These students have an advantage to join in hospitals like SVIMS , NIMS etc., as Technicians in Radiology, Cardiology, Neurology, Physiotherapy, Medical Physics etc.,

Among these eminent persons, Major B. Papa Rao who was the Head of the Department for 3 decades and then promoted as Principal, S.G.S. Arts College, Tirupati contributed very much for the development of the department both physically and academically, for which the department is indebted to him. Moreover, he worked as NCC officer for more than 20 years attaining the Major cadre, inculcating well discipline among the students.

With the influence of the above eminent personalities, many students were attracted towards teaching profession who are now working as Professors, Lecturers and Teachers in various institutions.

The department introduced job oriented courses like Electronics in 1990 and computer Science in 1991. Some hundreds of our students are working as software engineers all over India and abroad more at USA.

Dr P. Babu Rao acted as the head of the department of Computer Science after separation of the department from 1993 till his retirement in 1996. He is an author of several books published by S. Chand & Co. and Telugu Academy.

Dr. C.B.S. Bangar Raju established a Spiritual Homeopathy free Clinic with the permission of TTD and treated several people for many years up to his retirement in 1996. Dr. N. Venugopal Reddy has gained the knowledge of Homeopathy under his guidance and worked together from 1991 to 1996.

  • The Department has an excellent track record with regard to the results.
  • Results in Physics during the academic year 2017-18, 94% of the students have passed in Physics with 72 securing distinction and 58 first class. For the academic year 2018-19, 91% of the students have passed in Physics with 84 securing distinction and 58 first class. For the academic year 2019-20, 95% of the students have passed in Physics with 92 securing distinction and 68 first class.

Vision

  • To inhere amongst the students, the highest values of life respect for nature and to inculcate sound acquisition of knowledge of animal sciences through quality educational practices and research. We are a friendly, independent practice based in the department of zoology for the promotion of our students to higher education.

Mission

  • The mission of the department of zoology is to promote excellence in under graduate education and research. Our understanding of how animals function and interact has grown explosively in recent years we study about parasites cells organisms Physiology, Genetics, Embryology, Immunology, Ecosystems, Evolution, Animal Bio-technology, and Aquaculture etc.
  • To establish conductive atmosphere for the students learn advances in zoology and its associated technology. To take part in extension and outreach programme to achieve the goal in teaching. To prepare responsible trained man power in animal sciences, teaching and research. To sensitize human society for animal welfare conservation and protection of bio diversity. To provide transformative, holistic and value based immersive learning experiences too students. To produce leadership in science and technology.
